In step! Walking as artistic practice

Rambling, strolling and wandering, but also demon­stra­tions, processions and parades… Solo or en masse. Through the countryside or urban exploration. Among the long line of philoso­phers and writers from Aristotle to Rousseau who sing the praises of walking, a handful of artists have made moving into an art-form or a tool for their work. While this trend originates in the rest­less­ness of the 1960s, with performance, Land Art and conceptual art, we shall explore the place walking occupies in today’s art.
