How do I get to the museum?

Located in the heart of Charleroi’s Ville-Haute, BPS22 is easily accessible to all.
The museum’s exact address is: 22 Boulevard Solvay, 6000 Charleroi.

When can I visit?

BPS22 is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00. Last admission is at 17:30.
The museum is closed on 24, 25, and 31 December, 1 January, and during instal­la­tion and dismantling periods for exhibitions.

How do I buy a ticket?

ONLINE

  • For individuals and groups of 10 or more, click below to access our online booking tool. Select your visit date, choose your activity, and book and pay online.
  • Unable to pay online but still wish to book? Select your desired date and time and call us on 071 27 29 71.

ON SITE

  • Tickets can be purchased at the museum using bank card, credit card, cash, or Carol’Or.

Who is eligible for a discount?

Discounted entry is available for seniors, students, jobseekers, and holders of an Article 27 ticket.

Who qualifies for free entry?

In addition to free admission on the first Sunday of each month and during certain activity weekends, entry is also free for:

  • Children under 12 (accompanied)

  • School and community groups on guided visits, with or without a workshop. (Booking required)
  • Holders of the following cards:

    • Museum PASS Musées

    • PROF card

    • Press card

    • European Disability Card - to help disabled persons access culture

    • Province of Hainaut card (+ 1 companion)

Why isn’t the museum open all year round?

Dedicated to con­tem­po­rary artists, the BPS22 only presents new, temporary exhibitions. As a result, the museum must close for at least three weeks between each exhibition to allow for instal­la­tion and dismantling.

It is also closed on Mondays and on 24, 25, and 31 December and 1 January.

Can I take photos in the museum?

Yes, non-flash photography is permitted. Feel free to tag the museum (@bps22.charleroi) if sharing on social media!

Is the museum child-friendly?

Absolutely, BPS22 is open to everyone!

The Petit Musée presents a child-height selection from The Collection. It offers a didactic space that encourages dialogue between children, artworks, and generations.

Beyond the picture rails, the Petit Salon provides a cosy corner with books, creative activities, and games for toddlers. A perfect spot for a shared creative break. There are also outreach activities in the mobile studio.

In addition, regular activities for younger visitors include workshops, holiday sessions, mini-lectures, and more.

Is the museum accessible to visitors with reduced mobility?

Yes. There is ramp access to the building, lifts, and wheelchairs available to borrow. Our staff are happy to help with any needs.

Guided Tours

Les visites guidées sont-elles payantes ?

Yes, for schools and not-for-profits (booking required)

For other groups (families, friends, colleagues, etc.), the cost is €50 on weekdays and €60 at weekends However, free guided tours are occa­sion­al­ly offered during events like opening weekends or BPS22 for Kids.

Contact the mediation team at least 15 days in advance to share your expec­ta­tions and book a time slot. Tours for schools and asso­ci­a­tions may begin at 9:00, one hour before general opening.

How long does a tour last?

Tours typically last 1 hour 15 minutes. Workshops can add another 1 hour 30 minutes. Tours are flexible and can be adapted to the group’s needs.

What is the maximum group size per guide?

In the interest of everyone’s comfort, each guide can accommodate up to 15 people. For larger groups, multiple guides will be arranged to maintain the quality of exchanges.

Where can I find information about the artworks?

A printed visitor guide is available at the entrance.

Children can pick up a little visitor’s guide to explore the Petit Musée and an activity booklet to navigate the current exhibitions.

All these guides are available upon request at the museum reception or for download from the website.

Is there free Wi-Fi?

Yes, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the museum.

Where can I leave my bags and coats?

Lockers are available opposite the museum reception. Large bags must be stored there. Bring a €0.50 or €1 coin to use the locker, it will be returned afterwards.
If your items are too large (suitcases, pushchairs, etc.), the reception team will help you store them.

Is there a baby-changing table?

Yes, in the accessible toilet.

Where can I refill my water bottle?

Our tap water is potable. You can refill bottles in the toilets. During hot weather, a water fountain is available on the Mezzanine.

Can I eat at the museum?

The Mezzanine is open to individuals and groups wishing to picnic.

There is no restaurant or bar on-site.

Where can I park my bike?

You can secure your bicycle to the racks in the pedestrian zone or under the portico at the
museum entrance. Electric bikes can also be charged.

Please ask the reception team for advice. BPS22 is certified Bienvenue Vélo by the Walloon Tourism Office.

Curiosities

What was the building used for before it became a museum?

The Grande Halle of the Bâtiment Provincial Solvay (BPS) was originally part of the University of Labour and housed technical workshops (masonry, carpentry, welding, etc.). However, its impressive structure, built in 1911, was first designed to host the Fine Arts and Walloon Art exhibition for the Charleroi International Exhibition.

Why is BPS22 the Art Museum of the Province of Hainaut”?

BPS22 is an institution of the Province of Hainaut. and is responsible for managing the provincial art collection.

Why isn’t the full collection on display?

The Collection of the Province of Hainaut includes nearly 8,000 works – too many to exhibit all at once!

Works not shown at BPS22 may be on loan to other insti­tu­tions, undergoing restoration, or being studied.

BPS22 features both national and inter­na­tion­al artists selected by its curatorial team.

Can I rent museum spaces?

Yes, the exhibition and meeting spaces can be hired for pro­fes­sion­al events: team-building,
board meetings, training, walking dinners, private evening tours, and more.
