Spend lunchtime at the BPS22 enjoying a unique and quirky look at a well-known figure talking about the sources of their inspiration, from the most obvious to the most surprising: unexpected passions, unusual readings, hidden talent, an absurd collection, and so on.
As part of the SURPRISE ! exhibition that he will present at the BPS22 in November, the team welcomes artist Jean-François Octave.
A native of Arlon, Jean-François Octave lives and works in Brussels. With an architecture degree from La Cambre, he has made record sleeves for Disques du Crépuscule / Factory Benelux and posters and illustrations for Joy Division, Young Marble Giants, Tuxedomoon, and more. He represented Belgium at the Venice Biennale (1986) and has had exhibitions in New York, Paris, Copenhagen, etc. These last few years, he has focused on public art. He created a fresco for the Heysel metro station (Brussels), an integration for the Belgian embassy in Berlin (2001), a labyrinth in memory of Marguerite Yourcenar (2004), the “Monument de tout le monde” (Monument for everyone) for the LGBT community (2007), the La Madeleine metro station at Jumet (2013), and an intervention in homage to Evelyne Axell (2017)… He is professor of the IDM© Images workshop in the Milieu à ARTS2 - Mons Higher School of Arts.
With his “in-between” position, Jean-François Octave will talk about his relationship with the New Wave in 1980 - his fanzines, his friendship with Factory Records, Joy Division, etc. About his unwavering links to India, his relationship with New York where he lived, about his friends there and about Basquiat who was hiding around every corner. About his friend Proust and punk. About the art world or how to enter the “underground”. About his IDM© passions.
