MÉXICO: ESPERADO / INESPERADO

Exhibition

This exhibition, entitled México: esperado / inesperado, displayed works from the collection of the collector couple Isabel and Agustín Coppel. It revealed the function of a collection as a tool of knowledge and reflection, while attempting to draw out a definition of Mexican contemporary art.
The exhibition assembled work by Mexican artists as well as international names who for the most part had never or rarely exhibited in Belgium. Different themes emerged from the selection, such as nature, the city or the relationship with death. The exhibition examined the survival of cultural traits of Mexican civilisation as well as current concerns and problems that are more sociological and political.
