Das Wiener Seminar – Les enjeux de l’espace public

Chantal Mouffe

The book Das Wiener Seminar – Les enjeux de l’espace public, presented by Chantal Mouffe, explores the transformations and challenges of contemporary public space at the intersection of philosophical, media and political approaches.

This short publications brings together notes written for a symposium held at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2007, which were entrusted to and archived at BPS22. It outlines the key principles of Mouffe’s agonistic thought, which conceives of public space not as a place of consensus, but as a battlefield where opposing worldviews confront one another.

Born in Charleroi in 1943, Chantal Mouffe is a Belgian political philosopher who has taught at prestigious institutions including the University of Westminster, Harvard, Cornell and Sciences Po Paris. She is known for her work on radical democracy, developed with her husband Ernesto Laclau.
